A packed Marques da Silva. The Vareiro spirit in full force. And an opponent — CF U. Lamas — who came to Ovar without the tools to counter the home side's strength. The 2nd matchday of the Campeonato de Portugal 2026/27 ran almost entirely in one direction: towards the Lamas goal.

1st half — constant pressure, goal right on half-time

AD Ovarense came out determined. At 15 minutes, the Marques da Silva erupted with the first major Vareiro chance. At 18', João Moreira (Lamas) was booked. At 32', Lamas made the first change of the match: Tavares off, Hugo Almeida on.

By 37, the game was already almost one-sided — the Vareiros attacking in a high block, pushing Lamas back into their own half. At 38', Gonçalo Costa saw the first yellow for the Vareiros.

The goal would come right on half-time. At 45+3, a penalty with no room for doubt in favour of AD Ovarense; at 45+5, Rúben Fonseca, the number 9, converted with authority — 1-0 and justice served. During the same spell, Lamas keeper Diogo Santos was cautioned (yellow 45'). At the interval, Hélder Castro made the first Vareiro switch:

At 60', the visitors' only dangerous move: Kbarrane put together a good combination down the flank, but the Vareiro defence was well positioned and cleared the danger. At 64', Luís Cacheira off, Ivo Almeida on. At 65', yellow for Vitinha.

At 67', Hélder Castro made a double change, refreshing midfield and attack:

At 68', another dangerous effort — from AD Ovarense alone — going close to the Lamas post. At 75', Lamas spent the remaining pair of substitutions:

At 80', a shot grazing the post — a huge scare at the Lamas goal, the ball passing just centimetres from the woodwork. At 82', CF U. Lamas's feeble attempts were comfortably dealt with by the Vareiro defence. At 85', the hosts' final switch: Vitinha off, Guilherme Vasconcelos on. The Vareiros held control until the end.
